Book Contents

There are 11 chapters in Slushed. There are a total of 176 pages in this book. Each chapter is dedicated to a specific type of frozen treat. Chapter 5 is dedicated to frozen yogurt. There are 15 different recipes for various types of frozen yogurt in this book and chapter. The target demographic for this book is adults of legal drinking age (21+ in the USA). There are many types of other cookbooks for all ages, or for children, however this specific cookbook focuses on alcoholic desserts so it is not appropriate to use these recipes for desserts that you plan on serving to people under the age of 21 if you are in the USA.

The recipe instructions in Slushed are relatively simple. They also have flexibility in choosing different types of yogurt. You can substitute Greek yogurt, nonfat yogurt, or other types of yogurt depending on how thick or creamy you want your frozen yogurt to be. Most of the recipes require overnight freezing, so you will need access to a freezer as well.

The other tools required are standard kitchen utensils and pots and pans. Most people will have access to these tools in their kitchen already. However, all 15 recipes in the frozen yogurt section do require an ice cream maker machine. The book does not give exact instructions on how to use the ice cream maker, but it recommends following whatever instructions your manufacturer has provided. If you do not have an ice cream maker at home, and you want to make frozen yogurt using the recipes in this book, you will most likely need to obtain an ice cream maker somehow.

The best thing we like about the recipes from this book is the flexibility. The book also does provide some non-alcoholic options by being able to substitute the alcohol ingredients with other alternatives such as protein powder. We were also impressed by the variance in these frozen yogurt recipes. Some of them may only have one or two steps where you simply mix together some ingredients that do not require much preparation and then put them in your ice cream maker. However, there are other recipes such as the Maple Bourbon Yogurt Salted With Bacon And Pecans that requires cooking bacon and toasting pecans prior to going to the mixing and ice cream making steps.

The recipes in this book are suitable for a variety of schedules. Not everyone has an entire day just to make frozen yogurt. If you are in a hurry, you can use one of the faster recipes. You will still need to freeze the frozen yogurt overnight, but the preparation time will not be as long. If you have a longer period of time to cook, then you can try one of the more extensive recipes. Overall, we were very impressed by the detail and instructions as well as the assortment of different toppings that were suggested by the recipes in this book. If you want a sneak preview of what the recipes look like, you can find a recipe for Orange Creamsicle Frozen Yogurt on the author’s blog.
